This is the class blog for the University of Rhode Island Fall 2009 sections of Art 215 - Video & Filmmaking I. The weekly 20 second video is due to be posted before midnight on Sunday, every Sunday. Be sure to comment on at least 5 other videos.
This video reminded me of the Lumiere Brothers productions as I felt like I was in the Providence at night and although I didn't make it down to the clubs this weekend it gave me a spoonful of nightlife!
ReplyDeleteI think this short film is very simple yet says a lot about the society we are in. You have captured a woman using her cell phone. That is excellent. I think we are a society that becomes addicted to our phones and other electronic equipment. I think a neat way to enhance this video might be to turn to your right and catch someone on their cell phone there, then turn to your left and catch another person with their cell phone. I think that this would be like "WOW YES WE ARE ALWAYS ON OUR PHONES." Nice video : )
ReplyDeleteGood old Providence!
ReplyDeletevery simple, yet effective. I like the voyeur like shot you had of that lady with the city in the background.
ReplyDeleteThe shot is beautiful, and I love the colors. For me the story has a beginning, a middle and an end. Here is this woman amongst these busy streets with these two cars, and then the cars are gone and she is alone, (oh but wait), she whips out her phone and she's not alone. She is connected to someone.
ReplyDeleteWhen scrolling down through the videos this one caught my eye right off the bat, due to the colors, only to watch the clip to see how unintersted the woman is with her surroundings
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how something so simple and ordinary, can be really beautiful. As others have mentioned, the colors created by the streetlights + lo-res vid are really lovely.
ReplyDeletereminds me of the alien space craft lights in Close Encounters...
ReplyDeleteThe colors of the lights and the building are really beautiful. Watching her makes me wonder a) what she is doing there and b) who she is talking to.
